natalie maines on mel gibson ;-)

Via PEREZ HILTON:

"We're giving a shout out to Mel Gibson for our next song. Not for any reason in particular. But maybe if I claimed I was drunk on stage when I made my comments a few years ago [about George W. Bush], people might not have been as upset with us."

- Dixie Chicks leader singer Natalie Maines, introducing their song White Trash Wedding at a recent concert.

Most entertainers have the IQ of a plank and should stick to the one talent they might have, ENTERTAIN to a wide audience of all political persuasions. Otherwise expect the opposite view to exercise their rights of free speech by not buying their recordings or showing up for their concerts. But unfortunately, a stage encourages them to suddenly become authorities on every subject.

Ha! Good for her.

Natalie is an idiot!

Natalie really is Not Ready to Make Nice and I have to say I like that about her.

Don't you love it when Freepers make anonymous comments?

And silly you...if it's someone with the IQ of a plank that you're looking for, you need only look to the Current Occupant on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Although I am not quite sure that I wish to insult planks that way.

Entertainers have the right to express whatever it is that they are thinking or feeling. You're correct in that the fans have a right to agree or disagree with their dollars. However, I will never forget the memorable rant John Mellencamp went on about the mishandling of Hurricane Katrina at his concert last year. The show was at Desert Sky Pavilion and was sold out. Out of the thousands at the show, only one redneck yelled, "SHUT UP AND SING!" He was summarily ignored. All of this happened in uber-red state Arizona.

One more thing: you don't need a stage to become an authority on what corrupt, pathetic excuses for human beings George W. Bush and those who actually defend the man are. You can vilify "them liberals" all you want, but what upsets you about people like Maines is that she has your number. And then some.

This is a pet peeve of mine- I disagree with the politics of most of Katie's readers....and of most popular stars in question here...but even if I agree with the politics in question....unless the concert is a benefit or rally, I don't want to hear what the perfomers views are, I paid for entertainment !!!! You can write a book or pay for a commercial or donate the money I paid for the ticket to any cause you see fit- but don't preach to me about your cause!

Okay, mary c...

...but conversely, why should I, as a Buddhist, and my husband, as an atheist, have to sit through "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch at Diamondbacks ball games?

I believe in God...but not the God that they mean, which is most assuredly a Christian God.

Is it appropriate then? I came to watch my Diamondbacks play, not to have religious dogma shoved down my throat alongside the five-dollar hot dogs.

I hope Natalie keeps on saying whatever she wants, and when Ms. Natalie and the sisters are willing to say on a stage in Dallas Texas what they have been quoted as saying on stage in Loundon and New York I'll be impressed.

She has one of the greatest voices in music today, and in my estimation, even ranks up there with Pearl (Janis Joplin) and Bete Midler.

In canceling their Knoxville show the girls said "This is a year where we weren't sure what to expect. We were prepared for a lot of things as we figure out this new phase of our career. What we weren't prepared for, however, was the overly passionate audience response at all of the stops on the tour so far." - Yeah, right. Overwelming responses always lead to canceled tour stops.

I just keep in mind that these are the same ladies that took W's money and sang for him when he was govener when it suited their purpose.

Sorry our passion kept them out of Knoxville. I would have loved to take my 9 year old daughter hear some great music like I did her older sister when the Chicks were here on the Fly tour.

My, my, Laura you do have a way with words. I might remind you that those "rednecks" you so contemptuously refer to are the same young guys who are saving your scrawny neck by volunteering to go over there and kill the terrorists who are just itching to come here and slash your and your husband's neck. They are 99.9% solidly behind their commander in chief and are proud to show it. Your hate is bubbling over and I feel sorry for anyone bottling up that much bile and hate. I'll pray tonight that these demons are removed from you. As to the IQ of most performers, I was connected with the entertainment industry for many years and I was being generous when I said most have the IQ of a plank. They are frauds when they advertise their performances and don't clearly state that there will a liberal political sermon delivered with the music. Be advised and don't attend if that offends you. No, the cowards wait until your money is in hand and let go with their juvenile outbursts.

You're right, I do have a way with words, although I am not going to use that ability to fight with you. I'm sorry...I'm not going to play that way.

By the way, I am bonafide white trash from rural Indiana, a redneck and damned proud of it (I worked many summers on a farm, and that's where the term comes from) and my brother is leaving his family in October to do another 14-month stint over in Iraq. It is with that knowledge that I can confidently say that you assertion about our troops' political leanings is an outright lie. In fact, if you email me privately, I will be happy to provide you with the phone number of my brother, who most assuredly will set you straight on this matter. Quick question: while you're trolling blogs (thanks for all of the garbage you left on mine, I erased that trash), couldn't YOU be serving your country in the armed forces? Have you enlisted? I'll bet a cool million dollars that the answer is No.

Last I'll say on the topic: Natalie Maines has one of the greatest singing voices in history. Her voice affects me like no other. "Wide Open Spaces" remains a favorite with me, as I associate it with leaving Indiana right after my wedding, for the Wide Open Spaces of Arizona, and a whole new world.

Laura I don't know where your blog is so couldn't have left trash on it. Yes, I did volunteer for the armed forces once, not this war.

Anonymous, I've lived in NYC for 18 years. I think you need to dial down your ideas about the terrorists and what they're doing to America. Now, this is assuming that you don't (or have not) live(d) in NYC, or DC or in another part of the world where terrorists have attacked. I may be wrong about you, and if I am I sincerely apologize, but if I'm not please don't talk about what you haven't experienced on a daily basis. Somehow I, and the people I love, have lived here, and continue to live with the uncertainty of possible attacks and I can manage to retain support of free speech, support of our troops, while still thinking this war is an outright clusterfuck that isn't doing any good for anyone, least of all America.

Kizz,
You seem to have the impression that N.Y. and D.C. residents are the only ones who might be effected by a terrorist planted nuclear or biological weapon, and experts say there are some already planted here. Having lived through the last nuclear holocaust, I'm qualified to say, it ain't a pretty sight for anyone. In case you are ignorant of the after effects, either unleashed in N.Y. or D.C., it will have fall out effecting my children and grandchildren living thousands of miles from you. You are free to think what you wish about the "present war" but security experts, probably with more expertise than yours, agree that if the terrorists aren't stopped before crossing the pond, we have enough fifth column plants here to wreck havoc on our population. Now if you want to let your hatred for George Bush blind your reasoning on national security, your freedom of speech permits that. Even your soul mate Clinton has publicly stated the wisdom of stopping them on someone else's soil. Nuclear warfare doesn't stop at a couple of city limits.
