I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that.

That's just flat out ugly. I usually try to find an alternative explanation for ugliness, but in this case, no way.
As far as I'm concerned, if you're grabbing food and water, then you're not looting, you're surviving.
The people in both pictures are both obviously "looters", at least as much as a person who takes food & drink from an abandoned store in a city that's under 10 feet of water can be called a looter.
But the pictures appear to be from two different news agencies, with what I assume are two different and independent editorial staffs. Maybe AFP is much stricter than AP is about having proof of criminal activity before labeling a photo as criminal activity.
Lord knows I shouldn't be lecturing people on PCness, but that's bullshit, Katie.

I saw this same picture (black man)on another news agency and they said the man was wading through water after getting groceries at the store. Apparently no one knows where these people got the goods from and really, who cares. I agree with the posted that said it is not looting if you are grabbing food and water for survival.
It's pretty obvious what happened - one news agency calls finders looters while another calls looters finders, and some blogger gets his panties in a bunch because Yahoo! carries both agencies' news feeds. If any one agency - or better, any one author - were to use both terms, there might be a real story here. They didn't so there isn't.
Can we call them looters when they are taking jewelry and plasma tvs?
I just read a report on one my local TV station's Web site saying that looters (and yes, that's what they are, regardless of race) have cleaned out the gun department of Wal-Mart and tried to break in and loot Children's Hospital. Surviving, indeed.
Perhaps I wasn't clear:
I am ANTI-LOOTING.
I am also anti racism in media.

Neat. But this has nothing to do with racism in the media, and everything to do with hair-trigger charges of the same. To call one news agency racist because another agency won't call looters looters is nonsense on stilts.
ah, but Katie majors in the minors. Katrina is just another opportunity for her to get her liberal panties in a bunch. if you read further she doesnt give a rip about these suffering people. only about the fact Katrina blew great weather to her and her offspring. and of course about the horsies that are suffering.
I would say food, water, medicine, clothing it does not count as looting. however if people are taking TVs and such then yes, I would say that is looting. and i dont really care if the person who is doing it is pink. its still looting.
get over it Katie and focus on important stuff in life instead of your stupid little PC issues.
