My Uncle John says The Knitters show in Nashville last weekend was terrible - he described it as a poorly executed send-up of The Stray Cats on a bad day. But my kids' dad told me today that it was a great show.

I'm with John. It sucked. Very disapointing for Dave Alvin fans.
I saw them here in Boston two weeks ago and really enjoyed the show. I guess it depends on what you were looking for. As a guitarist, I enjoyed watching Dave Alvin, but the set wasn't so guitar-centric that you had to be a musician to enjoy it. Some of the "Wrecking Ball" schtick got a little hokey, but the sincerity was there for X songs like "New World" and "Must Not Think Bad Thoughts," as well as the Knitters stuff.
