shiloh jolie-pitt

Oh dear. Brad and Angelina have named their newborn daughter, SHILOH NOUVEL JOLIE-PITT.

"Shiloh" is a simply terrible name. It's the site of a horrifying, bloody Civil War battle. It's also the name of any number of dogs in the southeastern U.S., as well as a popular name for tacky subdivisions.

Yikes.

When you have tacky, trashy people, you get tacky names. So what's new.

Shiloh Nouvel...does that mean "New Shiloh?" If so, it sounds like the name of a Baptist church, not a kid. I agree with the other poster. They are so tacky I'm not suprised at anything they would name their kid. And how can it be a Jolie-Pitt when mom and dad aren't even married? New Shiloh Jolie-illegitimate.

Well, it's a big step up from Moses and Apple and Suri. In fact, I was surprised that they chose such a normal name, considering that Angelina is crazy as a shithouse rat.

I've heard worse!

In the Northeast with our large Jewish population it's not such a weird sounding name. I would not name my child Shiloh, but to many it does not remind us of a bloody battle.

Webster’s World dictionary defines Shiloh as, an ancient town in Israel, and refers you to read Joshua 18:1, which says: "And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them." (The place of the first assembly, in Shiloh was a place of tranquility and security.)

In additon to being the name of a city, "Shiloh" is also used in the Old Testament as a name for the coming Savior...so basically, they just named their kid "New Messiah" Jolie-Pitt. Suddenly, Britney Spears seems normal.

It seems to me that it wouldn't have mattered what the hell they named the baby, you would have found fault with it/them anyhow. And the part that truly amazes me is why you bother to mention it at all. Did you blog about Paltrow naming her kid Moses and the other one Apple? For the record I think Shiloh means peaceful. Get a life...

The real mystery to all of Katie's fans and friends is why you bother to take time out of your day to read her blog if you dismiss everything she writes

i love that pitt-jolie were, through the bith of their child, able to draw the world's attention to one of the poorest countries in the world. today's ny post and daily news have serveral stories about namibia. i bet the gnp of that country will raise considerably this year. good move, shiloh!

Aside from the whole leaving-his-wife-for-Angelina thing, Brad and Angelina seem like fascinating, caring folks and terrific parents. I am sure I'd love to know them as friends. I applaud the work they do all over the world.

But I stand by my assertion that "Shiloh Nouvel" is a hideous name.

Words, once they are used to name a person, take on a specific version of the word or names meaning. Shiloh as a person is defined here:

"The term "Shiloh" occurs also in Gen. 49:10 in a phrase translated in the KJV as "(..) until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be." This has led to one interpretation that "Shiloh" also refers to a person and is by Christians generally understood as denoting the Messiah, "the peaceful one," as the word signifies.

The Vulgate Version translates the word, "he who is to be sent," in allusion to the Messiah; the Revised Version, margin, "till he come to Shiloh;" and the LXX., "until that which is his shall come to Shiloh." It is most simple and natural to render the expression, as in the Authorized Version, "till Shiloh come," interpreting it as a proper name (comp. Isa. 9:6).

According to others this reading of Genesis 49:10 is somewhat problematical, but is the one taken, for example, by Bishop Latimer in his Lincolnshire Sermon for the "Third Sunday in Advent" (1552) and more recently by the followers of Joanna Southcott. Some Christians believe Gen. 49:10 to be a prophecy for Jesus while some Muslims believe it is a prophecy for Muhammad."

"Aside from the whole leaving-his-wife-for-Angelina thing..." Well, aside from that! Kind of hard to put that aside. And to me, the whole international adoption thing is bit over the top. "Gee, if I adopt an Asian boy and an African girl and make my own white baby with someone else's husband, I'll have a matching set!"

those who have nothing but nasty words for brad and angelina, get a life. and they are not trashy, don't compare them to you guys. you guys are just jealous bec they're damn happy and you're not! why dont you just go on a retreat and meditate, think of what you're gonna do to fix your life. and about the name, it's theirs to decide, they can name their baby with anything and you guys dont have the right to comment!

Isn't shiloh the name of a dog in a children's book? Couldn't they come up with something better?
