it's a girl!
I just finished reading my friend Andrea Buchanan's new anthology and I loved it. My favorite essay is by BY JOYCE MAYNARD. It's about what it's like to be the mother of an exceptionally pretty daughter - as I am - and how hard it is not to get all invested in your beautiful child's physical appearance.

Oh, I used to read Joyce Maynard's column in the San Diego Union, lo these many years ago...we moved from there in 1995. I loved her very real way of writing. I like her like I like Anne Lamott.
I know what it is like to be the mother of (what many people speculated was) The World's Fattest Baby. Willie nursed almost exclusively till he was 18 months. During his nursing year and a half, he was never sick. He was also so fat that my friends speculated my breastmilk contained pure lard!
becky
