So the new Conley media venture has launched: KNOXVILLE MAGAZINE.

Have you read it? Seen it? What do you think of the inaugural issue, and its shot at long term viability?

Jack Neely's story is great.

Why don't you write for Metro Pulse any more. I used to love your column.

The new magazine is beyond bad. It's just boring. Same old same old. The photography is uninspired, the design is pedestrian, the writing is generally only average. It's the work of people who wanted to put out a magazine who had no business putting out a magazine.

It will probably be a grand success. Sigh.

Mediocre at best

The restaurant story on Kenny Siao was very good.

Please tell me this restaurant "writer" is not related to the Bill Lyons who puts all the garbage on Bubbas' blog.

I don't write for MP any more for several reasons. The first is that when it changed ownership, they canceled my column. Soon thereafter, I became an employee of the Gannett corporation (I work for WBIR in Knox), so I have a non-compete clause with local media anyway.

I think there is a real lack of good writing directedat families with kids in MP these days, which is a bummer, because lots of us who read it do have children.

Wait. I don't think I was clear enough. The new magazine is horrible, from the poorly designed logo (could "Knoxville" have been rendered with a little more panache???) to the ridiculous cover (the Knoxville Convention Center? Can you spell W-H-I-T-E E-L-E-P-H-A-N-T???) to the lousy coverlines ("Home as Art"? How long did it take to think that one up???) -- and that's just the cover!!! I could go and on. The magazine has no pace. No rhythm. No sense of urgency. No sense what it wants to be. Arghhhhh!!!!!
