john mellencamp's kid's taste in music

As the mother of a teenage guitar god myself, I found this QUITE AMUSING

(But how can John Cougar, er, I mean Mellencamp explain his taste in baby names? I mean, who names their poor kid "Speck?" Ick.)

Speck was his grandfather's name.

Mellancamp is obviously a Pee-Wee Herman fan.

"Speck" was Mellencamp's grandfather's nickname.

His other son, Hud, is named after the main character in the 1963 film, Hud, for which Paul Newman won an Oscar. Mellencamp is a huge Paul Newman fan, and this is his favorite film.

I saw Elaine Irwin at the side of the stage, way down front, at the Mellencamp concert that I saw in August 2005. She is almost ethereal, she is so beautiful. Just a gorgeous, gorgeous woman. When he sang, "This Time I Really Think I'm In Love," he sang it to her. It was so sweet.

i also read somewhere that speck was named after a beloved family member. the boy is probably proud of his name, for it means so much to his father...
