Her doctors in rehab SUSPECT PPD as the cause of her recent, unusual behavior.
What do those of you with experience with postpartum depression think?

I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that.

I really don't buy that excuse. I think her separation/divorce has a lot to do with her behavior though.
i have to say that was what i thought when she started her downward spirel...although she did not have far to fall if you ask me...
erika
Drugs and her divorce probably have more to do with it than PPD.
I think it's more XTC than PPD.
If you know anything about mental health, it was so obvious she was self medicating herself with partying, alcohol and drugs and acting out in strange ways (flashing the public with no underwear, shaving her hair, not home with her children after the birth).
I work with women who have PPD and she had every red flag in her life for situational postpartum depression. The divorce is part of the problem; situational life experiences during pregnancy and after the birth contribute greatly to ppdepression as well as brain chemistry and hormones.
When her erratic behavior was starting to be published early this winter, I said to my family that it looked like she was acting out on her PPD (better then acting out on her children). By the time she shaved her head it started looking as if she was experiencing some serious rage and psychosis.

I agree with Dewi. All the signs are there. But I think it is a combination of a few things. The girl never had a normal childhood( being a child-star and all)Maybe she met some contractual agreement about having a stylist and manager and wanted to be her own person and make her own decisions after being told what to do and what to wear for what probably seemed like forever for her.She has been very rebellious for quite a while now.
.I feel sorry for her and hope that she gets her life on track.
Hmm, can you have PPD when you spend very little time with your children?
I'm sure she has some mental health issues, though.
Of course you can have PPD without spending what others feel is enough time with your child. How do we know whether or not she spends enough time with her children? We only see what the media wants us to see.She just might be out partying while her children are sleeping and the nanny is in charge.
I think the fact that she had two babies back to back, coupled with all the media crap, divorce...other turmoil in your life can make PPD worse so yes, I think it's highly likely she's got some.
And by the way anonymous, PPD is not caused by being with your children. It's chemical.
sista,
sorry I don't buy that is purely chemical. Sure, you may have a biological disposition to have depression. But the stress of infant care has got to be a trigger. I really doubt she was stressed with infant care.
"I know the history of psychiatry, you don't."
PPD is chemical, and if she had any other mental illness, PPD would exacerbate it. My mother was schizophrenic, and whenever she had a child, she had PPD. Everytime, it threw her chemicals and hormones out of whack, her schizo meds stopped working, and she went psychotic. Maybe Britney has something underlying the PPD, and it really threw her off the edge. Still, I hope she gets help. I hate to see anyone go through that kind of mental and emotional turmoil.
Britney was pretty messed up before she had kids. Read Jason Alexander's account of their three day marriage, which was a sign of an unstable personality back in 2004.
Not that he was making money by selling his "account" whether or not it had one iota of truth to it or not
