I read somewhere about people who leave it attached for some time, so they have the placenta wrapped up in a little blankie to move around with baby. If I can find it again, I'll pass it along.
What Rachel is talking about is a lotus birth if you want to look it up. People actually leave the placenta on until it detaches naturally. But as far as getting the cord blood into the baby, you need only wait until it stops pulsating before cutting it.
