The link is opening fine for me. Can't figure out why it isn't for others, but here's the URL:

http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/SIGNS/journal/issues/v31n2/60018/60018.html

It's a great piece.

OK, that's weird. Isn't showing the whole URL.

Let me try breaking it into two pieces:

/v31n2/60018/60018.html

Great article!
Here's a related question: Why do so many women seem to relish telling horror stories about pregnancy/childbirth/breastfeeding to women attempting these things for the first time? I mean, we all understand that breastfeeding problems do sometimes arise, but women don't need to be so discouraging and negative to each other.

My first baby is due any day now and I just completed a 6-hour breastfeeding basics class. Yay!

why does ANYONE like to tell horror stories about ANYTHING to anyone? come on...this is just human nature. People do it about school, jobs, movinghing that is even somewhat stress inducing. maybe they are glad to have lived through it. maybe people just like telling these stories. I mean lets face it...in a perverse way its more fun to talk about the day from hell than the best day you ever had. I cant count how many times something unpleasant has happened to me but I have thought years from now I can milk a GREAT story out of this.
I still tell people about how I practically clawed my OBGYN begging her for a c section the first time around. And then this prim nurse is like "well thats serious surgery and we dont just do it because you are sick of labor". I nearly punched her......
Oh and Christmas...lets not EVEN go there...oh the tales of Christmas gone bad....road trips gone bad...look at how many movies are based on stuff like this.
Get over it.
