racist journalism in tennessee

OK, so Brian Mosely has written yet another INCREDIBLY RACIST COLUMN in my hometown newspaper.

This one is pretty bad, but you really do have to see it in the context of HIS ONGOING, RACIST "COVERAGE" of issues related to Bedford County's Hispanic community.

The man appears to have a vendetta against immigrants (if you doubt this, just check out his PERSONAL BLOG. This is his blog, so he writes everything on it, plus you can get a better idea of his own views when he responds to commenters as "bkm" on the blog. It's scary stuff.)and that's his right, but he shouldn't be able to express it within the safety and supposed objective authority of the county's only daily newspaper.

ADDENDUM: Further perusal of this guy's blog reveals he's SEXIST, AS WELL

I live in Southern California, so I have a front-row seat on the illegal immigration issue. Believe me, it's a lot more complex than what you read in the newspapers...kind of like reading about the war in Iraq vs. being on the ground in Baghdad.

Actually, Mr. Mosely is correct about several things. The media didn't show much of the anti-American, negative activity that took place during these protests. He is also correct that many Hispanics believe that they are reclaiming their "homeland" (referred to as Aztlan).

The fact is, the Southwestern United States was never their homeland. The lands around the U.S.-Mexican border were inhabited by numerous Native American tribes. Where I live, it was (is) the Kuymeyaay, and while they don't make a lot of noise about it in the press, they aren't too happy with the Aztlan claim, either.

Prior to the Gold Rush, Mexicans considered California to be the outback...an undesirable place to live. Father Junipero Serra was so short of workers at his mission in San Diego that he actually worked out a deal with Mexican prison officials to release prisoners if they would come to California to work. Few took him up on it...they preferred staying in prison to moving to California (For more on this issue, refer to Rush for Riches: Gold Fever and the Making of California by J.S. Holliday, the former executive director of the California Historical Society).

I know next to nothing about this issue, but it seems to me that if we prosecuted people who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, they'd stop coming over here. It seems silly to try to block them at the borders when lots of people clearly want them to be here. If they didn't, they wouldn't hire them.

I talked to a Knoxville builder who employs illegals and says that as long as he pays the IRS with whatever bogus SSN they give him, there's no chance that he'll get prosecuted.

Lots of people who have lots of money want these people to come over here. How to go about allowing more of them to come over legally is complicated, but if the issue were as simple as not wanting peoplel to cross the border, the solution seems pretty simple to me.

Why are all your links now in CAPITAL LETTERS in a BLUE FONT which is pretty much impossible to read on the green background..?

Because I am an admitted idiot and have no idea how to change this in blogger. If anyone wants to assist, please e-mail me. Please?

Um. you regularly post scary leftist stuff and that's your right, but you to express it within the safety and supposed objective authority of a city's network news blog.

perhaps we should riot. after all, the right to free speech doesn't mean the right to "intolerant" speech... or does it?

I checked out the article and your extreme bias is showing. His problem, as well as the problem with the vast majority of our citizens,is ILLEGAL immigrants!!
You are not an unbiased reporter when you knowlingly and deliberately leave out the crucial descriptive word ILLEGAL. Or maybe you want to dissolve all American borders

Uh, scary leftist stuff in a network news blog? I think not. Not me, anyway. I challenge you to find what you are talking about and show me.

Actually, I agree with him. I am so sick about hearing minorities bitch about their "bad situation".

Who are African-Americans??? There are no such people. Africa is a continent not a country. Should I call myself a Euro-American? No, I am an American and proud of it.We are all Americans, whether we are white, black or purple. If Africa is so great, the Blacks should move there. Sure, our ancestors did the wrong thing, but it is not my fault. The Blacks living today should thank and be proud of their ancestors for their struggle. I would be willing to bet that the majority of Blacks in America are better off than the Blacks in Africa.

Speaking of racists, what is BET? Its Black Entertainment Television. If someone started WET, White Entertainment Television,I bet Black racists would be bitching that it was discrimination.

Now, on to the Hispanics! In the past, anyone who came to live in the United States had to learn to speak the english language. Why, all of a sudden, are we trying to become bilingual? We should unite in one language not two.

I am for accepting all people in our great, albeit somewhat flawed country. We are a "melting pot" of people and that diversity is what makes us Americans.

Everyone should stop whining like little children! Be proud of your ancestry, but be thankful you live in a somehat free society. America, it may not be perfect, but it is better than the rest!

BTW, I know I have gotten off the subject a little, but I needed to vent. Now, I feel better! Thank You!!!! :)

Sheriffs from counties along the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas say the daily battle with illegal immigrants continues to escalate. Illegal immigrants trying to get across the border "are getting so bold as to try to run over officers, assaulting officers," said Sheriff Arvin West of Hudspeth County. "They're definitely out gunning us, out manning us and the sophistication that they're using is beyond our capabilities at this point."

What are you talking about when? When in the past did immigrants "have" to learn to speak English? Um, never. Why should they have to if they can get along perfectly well within their communities without doing so? In numerous urban Chinatown areas, Chinese is spoken, not English. And so it goes. Who cares? Why is multiculturalism such a threat to you?

If they want to get along and do business outside of their communities, they need to learn English.

English has become the language of commerce over much of the world. If you don't believe me, look it up. Hispanics aren't doing themselves any favors by stubbornly refusing to learn English. They're dooming themselves to being hotel maids and agricultural workers.

yup. my family has lots of immigrants and yup they all learned English so they could get along. they werent bitching about making whatever their native language is into a requirement. I get so pissed off when I have to select spanish or english in various places. I have never had a racist bone in my body but this whole immigration thing is starting to develop one in me.

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity. And I refer to anonymous.
No one seems to want to suggest economic or political change to Mexico even thought we have allways been quick to point to the number of refugees from behind the Iron Curtain and Cuba as proof positive of their moral and spiritual corruption. But not Mexico's oligarchy.

Put protections in place for the immigrants protect them from abuse forget about the wall.

Turn your anger toward the builder the other anonymous talks about and the corrupt politicans in Mexico.
