Interesting.

Very, very interesting.

This is exactly why I will never ever ever ever ever ever have children. I don't want to have to deal with people like this who (believe it or not) are in every community, or - worse yet - become like them. I am bookmarking this site to use as birth control and as a reminder that people are weird.

p.s. I have never in my life seen people sign their names in emails using their first name AND the names and ages of their children. Is this what happens to you when you become a parent? You lose all identity beyond your child? I don't think my mother ever signed her name and followed it up with the names of my brothers and me. What is that all about? Can someone explain this to me?

Geez, that's what living in California is like ALL OF THE TIME! You have to worry so much about semantics that it's not worth opening your mouth.

That practice is pretty common on parenting lists. It gives the other parents a frame of reference and helps keep all the families straight. I've done that on some parenting lists, but I definitely don't put my children's names after mine on other non-parenting lists. I think I'm pretty safe wrt retaining my identity beyond just the Mom part. ;-)

I'm quite sure my mom (and probably yours, too) never signed anything besides greeting cards with her name and all the kids' names... but, on the other hand, my mother was never on an email list dedicated to parenting issues (or any other email list, for that matter).

Do your clients in Park Slope know how you feel about them? Are you this contemptuous to their faces? Do you know irl the difference between "antidote" and "anecdote"? In other words, is this just your blog-commenting personality, or is this what you're really like?

Yes, you are exactly the personality one looks for in a lactation consultant. Or, as New York Magazine would say, a "lactation consultant." I hope your clients in Park Slope are reading this thread.

You know what? I'll bet if her clients are reading it, they too would find this particular story of parenting gone nutso pretty damn funny.

Lay off. You're being a jerk.
