diapering the bum

I used cloth diapers almost exclusively with all 3 of my children. "Disposable" diapers gross me out and I think soft, cotton diapers are just much nicer on a sweet baby bottom. And while I'm no tree hugger, throwing away thousands of nasty, plastic diapers just seems wrong to me.

Here's an interesting article on the POLITICS OF DIAPERS in the U.S.

Das right...politics of diapering.

Quit your laughing now and go read the damn article.

All I can think of is the Politics of Daaaancing....(but with diapers)

CD-ing was one of those things I intended to do, but just did not work out in the end. As crunchy nutty as my hometown often is, diaper services are almost unheard of. And since there are conflicting studies on the environmental impact of either choice, I was not sufficiently motivated to wash our own. (Read: I'm lazy!)

I have thought of buying a few CDs now that my son is interested in toilet training, and also because some of the styles available are just so damn cute.

Fascinating article! As for me, I have cloth diapered all five of my kids--with plastic pants and pins, no less! It really never occurred to me to do it any other way. It's way cheaper, it's better for the baby and the environment, and it's really No Big Deal.

We do both in our family: cloth during the day, disposable at night (because I got really tired of having to change a soaked baby and bedding in the middle of the night) and disposable for travel. My husband is a pretty hard-core environmentalist. In researching cloth v. disposable, he read an article from the Union of Concerned Scientists which answered the question of which is better, saying, "It depends." And, to paraphrase: If you live in an area where water is an issue, disposable is probably better. If you live in an area where landfill is an issue, cloth is probably better. But in the end, they (UCS) didn't seem to think it was a battle worth getting your panties in a bunch about. As it were.

We have friends, however, who are such die-hard cloth people that they have never put disposable on their kids -- and they regularly go camping for 4 or 5 days at a time!

Is spelling Procter and Gamble correctly just too much to ask?

I still remember the snotball at the diaper service when my first was about a month old and started going more. she started leaking. and the witch at the diaper service got all snotty like and told me she has two in cloth and basically what was wrong with me. then suggested doubling them up. which would cost twice as much. no thanks.

I use both DD and CD, and I wash my own CDs-- couldn't imagine using diapers some other kid with a gastro used.
