fat people are not jolly

...or so says this NEW STUDY

This is another very important reason to address the issue of overweight children. Read this, parents, and get your children outside and away from soft drinks, McDonald's and video games. Not only will their health be affected, but their mental health as well. It's a form of child abuse and, like the other form of abuse, it will be with them for the rest of their lives.

The abuse issue for me is that an old stereotype like 'fat people are jolly' is still accepted and even has to be refuted by a study.

There are only a few groups of people now that you can still get away with making fun of or making assumptions about in our culture, and fat people are one of those groups.

You're absolutely correct and it's as wrong as any other stereotyping, but it's a sad fact. Other studies have shown that overweight people earn less too. It's terrible, unjust and makes no sense, but it's so. Because it is a sad fact, it's important to prevent it in those children who eat too much unhealthy food and don't get exercise.

Overweight people and Southerners were never issued tickets for the political correctness train. Goddess help you if you're both!

I can't say that all of the overweight people I've known have been jolly, but they've been a lot less bitchy than most skinny people.

I totally disagree. Fat people get carts at Wal-mart, they are on talk shows talking about how people next to them on airplanes take issue with having half of their seats taken up with a stranger's bulk, there are "sexy" overweight lingerie ads in every magazine...

BUT - while you can glare at a smoker and tell them they aren't allowed to smoke, you can correct someone's grammar, you can gripe about people having to gall to have large families and large houses and gas guzzling SUV's, you can state for a fact that addictions are unhealthy and for the weak minded, no way can you tell a morbidly obese person they ought to skip a second piece of cheesecake, and maybe walk home and around the block a time or two while they're at it. And you can't suggest that they encourage their child to maybe skip that Coke and bag of Cheetos. And you certainly can't make fun of them.

And don't get me started on how homosexuals have been and remain a standing joke. Ha ha ha.
