your favorite baby names?

So if you were having a baby now, what would you name him/her? Do you have any regrets about the names you DID give your children? Do you like your own name?

No, I am not pregnant, just thinking/talking baby names with Jon since we plan to be pregnant soon.

We both love Emma, but it's the most popular girl name on the planet these days. We both do like Anabel. He likes Charlotte, and while I like it, I really don't fancy it enough to actually bestow it on a child.

As for boys, we both like Sam. And Anderson (my mother's maiden name).

How about you? What are your faves? Major naming pet peeves?

Those are all very sweet names. I like tying in the family history with one of them.

I strongly advocate not telling ANYONE who doesn't live under your roof the name you choose until the baby has arrived.

When I told my grandmother we planned to name our son "Elliot," she told me it sounded like a "gay waiter in a PG Wodehouse story."

Actually, we both "agreed" on Anabel until you said you'd call her Annie....

True ;-)

I like Annie! And I like Anabel, too.

I have loved the name Emily since I was a small child, for lots of reasons. I almost didn't use the name because everyone else on earth named their daughter that in 2004. In the end, I loved the name too much to give it up, and knew when I saw her that she was "Emily." The point is, use the name you love. I totally agree with telling no one until after the baby is born. You certainly don't need any more judgment! Good luck with having the baby.

I love the name Martha for a girl and Joe for a boy.

Right now, "Mason" has a slight lead over "Theo" but it's too close to call.

"Richard" was vetoed immediately.

Bummer...*grin*

As the mother of a 3 year old Martha, I wholeheartedly agree that it is a super cute name for a little girl.

I like family history names, I love using names that aren't about to crest in popularity, and I don't think anyone should know too much ahead of time.

In my classes this semester I have 4 Rachels, 3 Brittanys, 3 Amandas, so please let's not add to that dimension. All are beautiful names, but overdone. How about Olivia, Aftin, Brenna Or Wilson for a boy,

I like classic names. I have a Kate, and if I had another girl, she'd be Claire. A little boy would be Will.

I'm a sucker for passing on family names-
I'd do a little research and see if any names from the past would be a good match. Do you have access to the family Bibles?

Personally, these are some that made my short list for consideration.

Katherine Grace (Katie Grace)

Martha Shirley (my Momma's name)

Caroline Elizabeth (Carrie Beth)

George Hinton (Grandfather's name)

Other family names include Gordon, Forrest, Alice, James and Harrison.

Anderson is my 'maiden' name(such a silly term!), and a name we considered for our son Max. Everyone in my husband's family has two middle names, so I used Anderson as one of them--Maximus Anderson Cooper Lastname.

Maximus was my husband's choice. I fought it, but it fits.

Early u/s seemed to indicate that I was carrying a girl, so we selected the name Maren. It's Danish and means of the sea. Pronounced like Karen, with an M. I *adore* the name. Its strong, pretty and unique without being bizarre.

My naming pet peeve is creative spellings--Madysynne, Zakureee, etc.

Oh, and my youngest brother is named Vaughn. I was a teenager when he was born, and thought it was a horrible name, but now I really like it.

oh don't get me started....catching babies and all i think in my next life i will be the name police.
no regrest on the names of my five children. a couple became trendy after they arrived....that's the only thing i try to avoid....seven ashleys in my 19 year olds 1st grade class fixed that for me.
my kids names and birth stories are on the side bar of my blog for the curious.

have always wanted to use Katherine Margaret ( Maggie ) and Aaron Christian- just never got around to having either one....I also really love family names or a bit unusual but not outlandish. I love the Anderson idea but when you spend so much time with all the other Anderson's it could be a little confusing.

I would never name a kid Emma.all I can think of is that other kids will be calling her "Enema" on the playground.

I love the name Charlotte. I love family history in names as well. My pet peeves for names are those trendy "last name as first name" ones - Madison, Mackenzie, Taylor, etc. I mean there are a gazillion Madisons at my daughter's school. Also weird spellings so that the poor kid is always having to spell her/his name out or correct the pronounciation.

Jessie Frances if it's a girl and Jesse Francis if it's a boy (now ain't that easy)
Both family names and I picked them long ago :)
you all must be excited!
those are pretty names you picked out

Is this a Bronte conspiracy? Charlotte, Emma, Anne? (I'm slow and just put the pieces together.)

Haworth, if I'm correct, is the family home. Is that usable in any way?

I'm quite certain ya'll will come up with a meaning filled name that is perfect for a little one.

If I was having a baby I'd call him/her "medical anomally."

(I'm male, you see, so...oh, never mind).
