Monday

With Valentines Day approaching, I find myself thinking about this rather pronounced and non-good character flaw I seem to have in which I reject men who are "too nice." I tend to like a healthy serving of major snark with my romance.

I think I am going to try something different. Maybe really, really nice is a good thing after all.

Hey. I'm not nice at all. I'm a real jerk. But you still rejected me.

I love you anyway, Kate. Your "let's just be friends" idea was a good one, I guess.

Snarky men are not your downfall. Snarky is not necessarily a bad thing. Jerky, troubled, useless, unpleasant, just plain mean, unfaithful- do any of these words jog your memory? Try nice.
Noted with love,

As a guy who has been sent packing more than once by va for being "too nice" and watched the resulting relationship dysfunction I would suggest that you take you own words to heart this time. For what it is worth nice guys who work hard and care about people and are faithful eventually do end up with the best women, make the best parents, etc.

What makes someone 'too nice'? What are the characteristics of this kind of guy? Becuase I don't want to be him.

I think "too nice" is what we tell ourselves when we don't like a guy THAT way, or else don't like him enough to date him. One day a "nice guy" comes along and we realize, Wow, I'm into nice guys after all. Only we aren't. We're into nice GUY. Singular. Take it on a case-by-case basis.

Had this same discussion with my sister yesterday, in fact. :)

Even the "nice guys" can drive you nuts and make your life a mess sometimes. I know, I'm there right now.

Leave the nice guys alone; they have enough trouble as it is. Buy yourself a card, chocolate, flowers and dinner, and then go ahead and hook up with snarky du jour.

I forgive you. (original sin)

I think it's good that you're giving the nice guy a chance. ;-)

Hey god - By any chance did I used to date you?

Katie, wouldn't that mean one of your children might be the second coming?

I am virtually certain that none of my three children are of the divine.

But they are pretty divine.
